A worried Spurs fan

Saturday morning’s game left much to be desired. Many Spurs fans will feel that a point at the stadium of light is nothing to be ashamed of, and i’d be inclined to agree. However, it is not the point that bothers me so much as the manner in which we got it.

Many Spurs fans believe that we have the fixture computer to thank for our relatively high chances of a top 4 finish. Our last six games see us face no team above 10th place, yet to me the Sunderland game demonstrated our inability to beat organised teams who stick ten men behind the ball, in the final third of the season. This is not a new phenomenon. Discounting a fairly hollow victory on the last day of the season against a Birmingham side who, at 1-1, had everyone but Ben Foster in our half in a bid to stay in the premier league, from March to May last season we played 6 teams who were in the bottom half of the table. These fixtures resulted in one win and five draws, two of which were of the ‘boring’ variety. My only fear is that our last six games, which include away trips to three relegation outfits, will not bare the the kind of results that will fulfill our current optimism; and with our rivals continuing to get results, this may be detrimental to our dreams of once again experiencing the goose-bumping ecstasy of European football which does not fall on a Thursday night.

The pessimist in me is wondering whether our lacklustre display against a typically Martin O’Neil football team, which saw us brace just one shot on their goal, is a sign of the frustration to come. What could possibly ease my angst? A convincing win against Norwich.

  1. And there you have it. More fuel added to the 'typical Spurs' fire. However typical it may be, it doesn't get any easier.
